| Background Info | Melfina is a wonder of past and future technology, so advanced as to be indistinguishable from any human. She eats, sleeps, feels pain, exhibits emotions, and even questions her own existence. This incredibly advanced bio-android blurs the line between real and artificial. She was created based on components Gwen Khan discovered at a place called the Grave of the Dragon. Some of the technology invovlved, however, was too advanced for even him to figure out, but he somehow manages to place some of those components into Melfina. The rest would go into the ship he designed at the same time: the XGP15A-II (now the Outlaw Star). Melfina is the navigator aboard the Outlaw Star, but the way by which she guides the ship is very unique. Entering a special interface chamber, she connects directly into the ship's computers and guides the ship in this manner. In this way, she can tap the secrets hidden within her to unlock the secrets of the Galactic Leyline. Before the Kei Pirates could activate both her and the XGP, however, "Hot Ice" Hilda steals them both, taking Melfina with her (still asleep in a stasis case) to Sentinel III. Gene will eventually open the case and awaken her. With the help of Gene and company, Melfina begins to take in the new experiences around her, developing a curious and friendly personality. Melfina's mystery also changes Gene's behavior (he doesn't act his usual rowdy self towards her). He eventually promises to help uncover her secrets, and Melfina appreciates it. Finally, it's discovered that Melfina is they key to unlocking the power of the Galactic Leyline, and in a moment between life and death, Melfina gains the power to grant Gene his deepest desire...but Gene refuses the offer. All he really wanted was Melfina...and Melfina finally admits that now all she wanted was Gene. The Galactic Leyline will ultimately grant their mutual wish...by disconnecting Melfina from the Leyline and freeing Melfina to live her own life. |
