Background Info | Unlike typical water-using characters who are calm and reasonable, Ryuuzaki Umi is short tempered and vain. She's the daughter of wealthy parents and attended a private school with other wealthy children, but was transported to Cephiro with Fuu and Hikaru. Because her parents doted on her and spoiled her, Umi's attitude was harsh and brusque, as she was more concerned with returning to Tokyo to attend the fencing tournament. But as she went through Cephiro's trials, she eventually decided to put her friends and this world first before returning to Tokyo. In the end, Umi had to deal with the grief of them killing the Pillar, Princess Emeraude, whom they believed were supposed to rescue from Zagato. While not considered canon, Umi's title in Cephiro would be 'Magic Knight Selece' to go with Hikaru being 'Magic Knight Rayearth'. Umi's element is water and her theme color is blue. While she and Hikaru have offensive spells, Umi's more about speed and precision than about strength. Her Rune God is Selece, and she starts off with a rapier as her basic weapon. Her Escudo sword is basically the same type of sword. It turns into water if anyone else tries to wield it. In the second season, Umi is kidnapped by the Chizeta faction and fights the two sisters Tarta and Tatra before escaping. Of the three girls, Umi is the unluckiest with romance in Cephiro. She first makes fun of Master Clef for his short stature and young age, but eventually develops unrequited feelings for him. Meanwhile, Ascot developed his own unrequited feelings for Umi, but she regards him only as a friend. He actually doesn't mind if his feelings aren't returned as long as she still likes him. In the OVA, Umi's rival is Ascot, who uses a crab Rune-God to go against her water dragon Rune-God. |
