I don't usually interfere with the way other websites are run, but this once I will. An artist who's published numerous images here and is regularly active on the Groupboard and Oekaki boards was banned from a messageboard, for the simple reason of having drawn characters nude.

The website in question is Rival Schools Network. The site is, as you've probably guessed already, devoted to Rival Schools, the computer game. I'm not all that familiar with the game, but it seems to have a steady following in the form of that site and at least one webring.

Granted, the messageboard's owner controls access, and can add or remove users at will, but kicking someone who acvitely participates in your hobby by drawing (Both normal and hentai) artwork is going a bit far, isn't it? People have a choice, they can either watch artwork or not watch it.

Another facet on this gem is that the artwork in question is the material here, in the CG Shrines. The character Tiffany appeared in the Groupboard Archives (Both normal and H-Section). Artwork is processed every week, to prevent it from getting lost at the bottom of the 'saved' list of the groupboards. It is then moved to the permanent archive. So this artist is banned for drawing the character he likes, solely based on the feeling of one other person. (He didn't even know artwork was automatically backupped until this incident).

He is called 'not a true fan', for his artistic license. Fantasy is apparanly forbidden to artists, and those that decide to take characters a step further (Which is basically what they were designed for -- why else are there improbably buxom girls in fighting games?), are condemned and expulsed by the very group that claims to know what a game is all about. Apparantly, fun isn't allowed to be had.

Those are just my 2 cent's worth. I have no idea if it will matter, but I'm sure it'll make you think about these sorts of things. It is, after all, censorship.

I bought Unreal Tournament 2003 last friday. Wow. I love it! The gameplay isn't that different from the 'old' Unreal Tournament, but the graphics are a lot prettier. It's pretty neat, and a bit easier to configurate than UT1. it's still too new for new models and maps to arrive, but I'm sure those will show up soon enough. The new version allows for a much higher level of details on the models, something I'm sure will be put to good use to the handy model-crafters. Most of the maps are breathtakingly pretty! Of the models you can play, a lot are rought and nasty looking, with a whole series of psycho's and alien-insects for those who wish to use that as their incarnation in game. I picked the model you see to the right. (There's a series of egyptian-like characters to choose from as well. :)

I've reconsidered my position. Not so much for the people who were demanding I continue as for the fact that I do miss tinkering with the site. A few changes, however:

- I'm sticking to the main sections of the site.
- I'm looking for someone willing to make screenshots of the Groupboard images, cut them to size and email them each week. If you think you can do this, contact me. This is more time consuming that you might realise, so consider carefully.
- Updates will be weekly, as usual, starting next week. ;)

As for those wondering why I didn't simply 'hand it over' -- the decision was not easy to make. For one, you, the visitor, have no idea how much time is spend on maintaining this site. Trust me. You don't know. The environment created to take care of the pages (With a scriptlanguage specifically written to create these pages), the administration tools (hosted on servers I wouldn't not give out the passwords for anyway), make it logistically impossible to 'hand it over'. If, or when, I decide to let it rest, it will die quietly, fading into black. (Perhaps I'm suffering from false pride, but I wouldn't want someone do a hackjob on it anyway.)

To those I needlessly frustrated, I apologise. Those that send emails of support, I thank.

This might come as a suprise to most people, but I've decided to stop updating the CG Shrines. Due to lack of time and other obligations, I've come to that conclusion. All good things come to an end, after all. The site will not be taken offline (if it's up to me), and will remain accessible for as long as the servers are kept running. (This is completely up to the people who own those servers, though. :)

I'd like to thank everyone who helped the shrines in it's five and a half year life. Made many new friends and met many interesting people.. you all know who you are.

Enjoy the site for as long as it lasts people. It's been a blast.

I'm in the proces of changing the various links now that cgirealm dropped out of the network, so bear with me for now. Some links might be dead for a few days. (it's being worked on.). Just to give you a thought, moving a copy of both GB and Oekaki archives means moving nearly 300mb. ;)

E! sends a little sprite of Cheshire that was created by Mighty Damocles. It appeared originally on the MugenDev board (Or so MD tells me. :)

I received my Avalon Memorial Box (DVD) from CDJapan (Daaamn, that is expensive), but it's worth every penny. I absolutely love Mamoru Oshii's latest movie. (He's the guy that did Ghost in the Shell). Completely filmed in Polish (But with excellent English subtitles), it is a tale of virtual reality, and games. Visually beautiful, but that is no suprise. The story is not always very fast, (Oshii takes his time). The music by Kenji Kawaii is gorgeous. The soundtrack alone is worth buying. (And you get all sorts of cool extras on the cd, too, such as wallpapers, screensavers, e-mail stuff and more. :)

The Oekaki board (Normal art) has been wiped, since it was full. All art is saved in the static archive, so nothing was lost.

Three points:

First: I'm still looking for additional file-servers (although I've received one positive reply already), as the more, the better. If you can spare the bandwidth and have a server that can handle lots of traffic, please contact me. (The email is available from the email page. :)

Second: A friend lost her Roomi page, when the server it was hosted on died in a messy HD crash, leaving her with nothing at all. I'd like to add this character to the shrines, and see what can be retrieved artwork-wise, as I'm sure there's plenty of that around. Roomi is from a game called Galaxy Fight, and some images can be found at http://www.jgpalanca.com/gfight/roomi.html

Third: Nothing to do with the CG Shrines, but I recently started playing Dark Age of Camelot, and wondered if there were people willing to team up. Drop me a line if interested.

I did manage to add three new shrines to the site (Swan Jun, Rikku and Xianghua), so enjoy these in the meantime. AMOK has been updated as have the Groupboard and the Oekaki pages.

As many have noticed, the CGIREALM server is hiccuping at the many visitors. I do need an extra server, so if you want to help out, instead of emailing me to say that it's causing errors, beg/borrow/arrage for an extra server. Grovel at work, sell your soul, get a mortgage -- whatever it takes. ;)

It looks like the machine running cg-us.cgirealm.com and cgs.cgirealm.com (the same server) is having a bit of a nervous breakdown. Hence the errormessages you see when using that site. The groupboard pages have moved here. What I really need is another fileserver. Anyone willing to provide the shrines with a server and bandwidth, please, please get in touch.
